Matthew N. Turko

Matt focuses his practice on estate planning, federal income and estate tax issues, and probate and trust administration.  His practice encompasses the creation of basic estate plans, including wills and revocable trusts, to the creation of sophisticated estate plans, including dynasty trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts (ILITs), qualified personal residence trusts (QPRTs), grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs), and family limited partnerships (FLPs).  He also advises clients on Florida residency planning with a particular emphasis on changing residency from New York and Connecticut.

Matt also has experience advising non-resident aliens on US gift, estate and income taxes and has also advised US citizen and resident clients on their US income tax obligations in regards to foreign assets and has assisted US citizen and resident clients navigate the IRS Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Programs.

In addition to assisting clients with trust and estate and tax matters, Matt assists clients with the sale and purchase of real estate.  Matt also serves as stock transfer agent for several cooperative association apartment buildings in Palm Beach.

Matt received his B.S. in Business Administration from Eastern Connecticut State University, summa cum laude, in 2003 and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law in 2006.

Matt is admitted to practice law in Florida, Connecticut and New York.  He is a member of the Tax section and Real Property, Probate and Trust section of the Florida Bar, the East Coast Estate Planning Council and the Palm Beach County Bar Association.  He also serves as a director on the board of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County.

Matt joined Haile Shaw & Pfaffenberger in 2014.  Prior to joining the firm, Matt practiced law in the West Palm Beach office of Kaye Scholer LLP and in the Naples, Florida, and Stamford, Connecticut, offices of Cummings & Lockwood LLC.
