Ellen Laird Regnery

Ellen Laird Regnery

Ellen helps our clients protect assets and ensures the proper distribution of those assets. She guides clients through their estate plans and various techniques available to secure the benefits and protections needed for the preservation of family wealth and the passing of business interests to successive generations.

Ellen is highly skilled at creating estate plans from the most basic plans using wills and revocable living trusts, to very sophisticated plans which include dynasty trusts, family limited partnerships, grantor retained annuity trusts, residence trusts, charitable trusts and insurance trusts.

She routinely assists clients in becoming Florida residents and qualifying them for the Homestead Real Estate Tax Exemption and disengaging the clients from their former state, even if an out-of-state home is maintained.

In addition, Ellen frequently establishes private foundations for families who desire to promote philanthropy for many generations and create lasting legacies. She has successfully defended limited partnerships and other sophisticated planning techniques before the IRS in estate and gift tax audits.

Born in Ohio, Ellen came to Palm Beach County with her family four decades ago. Her father, Dr. Robert Laird, became one the area’s most prominent oral surgeons. Ellen is an alumnus of The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida and her law degree, cum laude, and master’s of Law in Estate Planning, from the University of Miami, School of Law.

Ellen is a member of the Palm Beach County Estate Planning Council. She also serves on the advisory board for BB&T and as a board member for Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast. She is a former member of the Professional Women’s Network and a past member of the Junior League of the Palm Beaches and the Florida Association of Women Lawyers (FAWL).

Beyond the Law

Ellen has visited The Benjamin School, where as a volunteer with Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast, she met with 6th and 8th graders to help them learn about earning, spending, sharing and saving money. Someday, Ellen may be using her expertise to help them with estate planning.
